Darlene Robinson, 69, of West Frankfort, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 4:53 a.m., Friday, March 10, 2017 surrounded by her family in Herrin Hospital.
Darlene was born April 5, 1947 in Herrin to Paul Emmitte and Alice Pauline (Graves) Mezo.
She married Walter Al Robinson on July 7, 1967 in Herrin. Together they have shared nearly 50 years of marriage.
Darlene was first and foremost a beloved wife and mother who spent most of her days setting an example to her children on how to always do for others out of the kindness of your heart, never needing or wanting anything in return. She taught her children that a job worth doing well, was a job worth doing neatly…or else you better backup and start all over again.
Darlene was of the Nazarene faith. She attended the Mulkeytown Baptist Church. Darlene and her family traveled and sang southern gospel music as the Robinson Family for 18 years. She was the pianist for the group. They had many memorable times singing together.
She was a 1965 graduate of Zeigler High School. She enjoyed crocheting and flower arranging. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Al Robinson of West Frankfort; two daughters, LaShanda Utley of West Frankfort and Geinger (Mark) Hill of Franklin, TN; five grandchildren, Brittany (Bryan Stroud) Utley of Christopher, Jonathan (Dakota) Utley of Ewing, Mikayla Utley of West Frankfort, Jake and Ethan Hill of Franklin, TN; two great-grandchildren, Bentley Stroud and Jase Utley; three brothers, Joe (Eva Adams) Mezo of West City, Paul Mezo of St. Louis, Gordon Mezo of Santa Barbara, CA and Brenda Redick of Myrtle Beach, SC; special friends of the family, Ronda Lane of Sesser & Jeremy Urban of West Frankfort and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Greg and Eunice Robinson; two brothers, Darryl and Bruce Mezo.
